Old Me or New Me

It’s important to be intentional about the change you want to see and the person you want to become. Writing your goals down is good but without action, they fade. Over time, they become out of sight and out of mind.

The other day, I started cleaning out my closet. It quickly became overwhelming, so I took a break to run a few errands, telling myself I would finish when I got back. I ended up being out longer than planned, and when I returned home, I was tired. My first thought was to lie down, scroll on social media for a bit, and then finish the closet.

But then I paused and asked myself a question: Am I operating as the old me or the new me?

The new me doesn’t procrastinate. The old one does. And I already knew the truth if I lay down, that closet isn’t getting finished. So, without hesitation, I turned on some music and finished the closet. When I was done, I felt proud, accomplished, and genuinely happy with the outcome. Then I laid down and scrolled on social media reward earned.

This may not be your exact situation, but it’s a simple example of choosing action over intention alone. It’s about partnering with yourself to get the job done. It’s self-leadership reminding yourself of the goal and making a conscious choice between delaying the outcome or doing the work.

As you move through your days, notice the small moments where you’re given a choice to delay or to follow through, to default to old habits or to practice becoming who you say you want to be. These moments don’t have to be big or dramatic to matter.

Growth often looks like quietly keeping promises to yourself. It’s learning to pause, check in, and choose with intention. And even when it feels uncomfortable or inconvenient, those small choices add up. Be patient with yourself, partner with yourself, and trust that each action no matter how small is shaping the person you’re becoming.
